Church  |  Preschool

Mountain View Lutheran School is located in a mostly residential, suburban area in the northwest valley of Las Vegas, Nevada.

The school is an educational ministry of Mountain View Lutheran Church, which opened its doors in 1958 at the intersection of West Charleston Boulevard and Decatur Boulevard. In 1991, the decision was made to add a preschool, and the church and preschool quickly outgrew its Decatur location.

The decision was made, and ground was broken in 1994, to build a new church and school at its current location at 9550 West Cheyenne Avenue, which opened in 1997, with the intention to start an elementary school. The school facility was built first, with church services held in the gymnasium.

Kindergarten began in the 1998–99 school year with the addition of one grade each consecutive year until grade 5 was reached to begin the 2003–04 school year. The vast majority of students who graduate Mountain View Lutheran have continued their educations at Faith Lutheran Middle School, for which MVLS is the only feeder school in this part of Las Vegas.

Serving the school as its administrator and elementary principal since 2014 is Kris Schneider, who came to Mountain View Lutheran with 19 years of educational experience in education, with over 13 of those years as an administrator in northern California. New Preschool Director, Donna Einspahr, came on board to begin the 2016–2017 school year.

Mountain View Lutheran has begun several, voluntary improvement opportunities via the accreditation processes. The two agencies involved are Western Association of Schools and Colleges and National Lutheran Schools Accreditation. Once these processes are completed, Mountain View Lutheran will be the first and only school in Nevada accredited through Western Association of Schools and Colleges, leading the way for schools throughout Nevada and the Pacific Southwest District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod to do the same through the rigorous process of accreditation.
